Cold Brew Cola

Cold Brew Cola

Opinions on Coca Cola vary, but one thing is certain: a sip of an iced-cold Coca Cola, the feeling of the sweet and crisp bubbles hitting the spot in such a magical way, feels almost as good as a sip of cold water in a blazing hot desert.

But this experience lacks one important thing—a respectable hit of caffeine and a confident note of coffee.

What is it?

This is a homemade super caffeinated Coca Cola. We have some control over all the components and make some improvements: crisper bubbles, more caffeine, and the right amount of coffee flavor.

Quick Back Story

This was a drink released for a summer menu my coffeeshop. I always encouraged the team to keep experimenting with drinks and come up with new concepts. This, after-all, is where some amazing things are born.

The Cold Brew Cola, unbeknownst to me was incredibly popular, a realization only came to be known when I took it off the menu in place for a new drink.

See the hate mail below:

We obviously brought it back and made it a permanent stable. Democracy is a beautiful thing—gotta give the people what they want.

Recipe Notes

  • You must use the Monin brand. After trying several syrups, this is the closest flavor to Coca Cola. If you're feeling brave (and have the time), you can attempt to make your own cola syrup.
  • You must use cold brew concentrate, a shot of espresso just doesn't do it. It muddles the sparkliness and overpowers the flavor. Not to mention the time it takes to warm up the machine, dial the shot, etc.
  • You'll notice in the photos that the drink was dosed on a scale. This allowed for faster preparation, skip measuring with a jigger, and dosing all the ingredients straight into the glass.

Directions

Note: The order of directions is important here.

Doing it in this order will avoid the syrup from bubbling up. Also, use exact ingredient measurements. The ratio of water to cola syrup and cold brew concentrate is golden.

  1. Take your glass and fill it all the way up with ice cubes.
  2. Add the 9 oz of sparkling water.
  3. Slowly add the cola syrup.
  4. Add the cold brew concentrate.
  5. Add one dash of orange bitters.
  6. Stir slowly until syrup and cold brew are dissolved.

While a Cold Brew Cola might not solve the world's most pressing problems, it may be a good start.
